Japón ha propuesto un aplazamiento de un año de los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio 2020 debido a la pandemia del nuevo coronavirus.
El Comité Olímpico Internacional ha aceptado, afirmó este martes el primer ministro japonés, Shinzo Abe.
«He propuesto posponer un año y el presidente (Thomas) Bach dio su acuerdo al 100 por ciento», declaró Abe.

Sería un movimiento de fechas sin precedentes en la historia para unos Juegos Olímpicos.
Hasta ahora, únicamente las guerras mundiales evitaron la disputa del evento en 1916, 1940 y 1944, pero en todos esos casos se optó finalmente por una cancelación definitiva.
El COI mantuvo hasta hace apenas unos días una posición inflexible de mantener los planes previstos, pero en los últimos días la presión se había acentuado.
El domingo llegó a admitir que contemplaba varios escenarios, entre ellos el del aplazamiento, y se dio un plazo de cuatro semanas para tomar una decisión.
Shinzo Abe había admitido el lunes en el Parlamento japonés que un aplazamiento de los Juegos «podría ser inevitable».
Los Juegos Olímpicos sufren así un aplazamiento de un año, como el pasado martes vivieron otros dos eventos de gran relevancia, la Eurocopa y la Copa América de fútbol.
Estas dos igualmente, por la crisis sanitaria internacional que obliga al confinamiento de millones de personas y tiene el deporte suspendido.
